How to create a simple Live Encoding Setup with nanocosmos Live Video Encoder and Wowza Media Server

REQUIREMENTS

  • Windows PC (XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003, 2008, 32 or 64 bit)
  • Live Video Source available as a video capture device (Webcam, HDMI, Firewire, …)
  • Wowza Media Server (www.wowzamedia.com)
  • nanocosmos Live Video Encoder
  • Playback Application (e.g. Web Page with Flash based Video Player)


USAGE

There are several ways to use Live Video Encoder

  • Desktop Application with Graphical User Interface
  • Web Application (HTML based)
  • Command Line Application for Batch based Encoding
  • SDK / Toolkit Interface for Custom Applications

The following text describes the user interface based Desktop and Web Applications

DESKTOP APPLICATION

Windows based native application for live encoding and streaming
  • Install: LiveVideoEncoder-setup.exe
  • Select your video and audio capture devices (camera/microphone)
  • Select the desired camera resolution and encoding bitrate (e.g. 320×240, 400 kBit/s)
  • Enter the RTMP Url of your Streaming Server (Wowza or Flash Media Server)
    Example: rtmp://localhost/live+myStream
    (Note: contact us for example streaming URLs for testing)
  • WEB APPLICATION

    nanocosmos Web Streaming Plugins for Web Browsers
    for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera
    platform: Windows

    • Install Live Video Encoder Setup (Plugins or Toolkit, Auto-Installation from Web Page possible)
    • Open the nanocosmos.html web page with your favorite browser
    • Select your video and audio capture devices (camera/microphone)
    • Select the desired camera resolution and encoding bitrate (e.g. 320×240, 400 kBit/s)
    • Enter the RTMP Url of your Streaming Server (Wowza or Flash Media Server)
      Example: rtmp://localhost/live+myStream
      (Note: contact us for example streaming URLs for testing)
    • Press “Start Broadcast”

    LIVE VIDEO STREAM PLAYER

    Flash based Web Player

    • Open live.html web page and enter the rtmp url + stream name

     

    (Optional) Set up Wowza Media Streaming Server on your local computer

    • Download and install Wowza Media Server Developer Edition.
      Here you find all informations to get the Wowza Server running:
      quick-start-guide

    • You might need to update Java.
    • Install Wowza Examples (Windows: Start Menu->Programs->Wowza Media Server [version]->Examples / double-click installall.bat
    • For further server settings please see Wowza Website.
    • Start the Server:
      Start Menu->Programs->Wowza Media Server [version]->Wowza Startup /

    • How to verify Wowza Server is running:
      Open a web browser and enter following url:
      http://localhost:1935
