  • How do I manually remove a codec?
Most codecs are installed as DirectShow filters. The MPEG-2 Decoder is called nmpvdec.ax or nmpvdec2.ax and is stored in the WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 folder or in ProgramFiles/nanocosmos. They can be unregistered from the system by renaming or deleting the files. The proper method is calling "regsvr32.exe /u filename.ax.
